The gray-scale appearance means that Clipà.Vu is in an inactive (unfocused) mode.
The app will still run in the background and collect all copied clipboard contents but you must activate it for items pasting.

Current Clipboard Content

This area visualizes the content that is currently stored in your Windows Clipboard.
This is the content that will be pasted by pressing Ctrl+V in any application.
With Clipà.Vu you can always peek at this area to be sure what your current Windows Clipboard content is.

Clipboard History

Clipboard History

Clipboard History is the core of Clipà.Vu application. Any content you copy to you Windows Clipboard will be stored in Clipboard History.
History can contain up to 999 items. That means you can quickly reuse clips you created 5 minutes ago but also clips that are several months old.
Double-click any clip and it will be pasted directly to your target document AND moved to your Windows Clipboard.
Tip: Use shortcuts to quickly open Clipà.Vu on its History page.

Favorites

Favorites

Contents you use repeatedly can be marked as Favorite Clips.
You can store any clipboard content as a favorite clip and reuse it later by clicking the appropriate favorite line.
The easiest way to create a favorite is to right-click on any clip in your History and mark it as favorite.
Every clip can be nicknamed. Sometimes it is easier for you to remember (and quickly find, resp. filter out) the given item by its nickname than by its content.
Tip: Do not forget to use Clipà.Vu shortcuts to quickly open Favorites page.

Timestamps

Timestamps

A useful tool for marking your texts with the current date and time in your preferred format(s).
Click on the green ‘+’ button and spend some time on understanding how to create custom timestamp patterns.
After you have created your pattern all you need to do is to double-click the given item and it will timestamp your target document.

A tool designed for developers. Please ignore if you do not know what GUID is.

Mini User Interface

In case you prefer Clipà.Vu occupies a minimum of your screen real estate then switch to the Mini UI.
This is a very good option in case you work with a laptop or notebook. You can always switch back to the default user interface within seconds.
This switch can be done in Options (the gearwheel icon on the top of the user interface) or via the right-click on the Clipà.Vu tray icon (right bottom corner of your screen, next to the system clock).

All lists support the right-click functionality. Just right-click on an item and you will be served with a set of options related to this item.

Definition
Clip Item is a representation of a single clipboard content accommpanied its description and actions that can be done with this content.
Default Height
By default you can see 2 lines of text of every clip item.
Visual Division
Every clip item is devided into two columns: The left (colored) one and the right (white) one. It is important to know that clicking on each area will perform different actions.
Tip: Use shortcuts to quickly perform clip actions.

The first mouse click will expand the clip height into 4 lines. That will reveal more content and also secondary and tertiary cilp actions (blue area).

Every clip has its type. The white T in the blue area stand for Text, indicating it is a text item.
Currently supported types: Text, Image, Email, WWW link, Timestamp, Guid

The small number next to the type symbol shows the item order in the list.
Tip: It is handy to use numbers as keyboard shortcuts to quickly perform clip actions. E.g. pressing the key 2 on your keyboard will move/paste exactly this item because it is numbered as item #2.

This icon represents the clip source – the application the clip was originally copied from.

This is the most important area that carries the clip content itself. In this example it is a piece of Wikipedia text about Orion constellation.

Please notice! The following description is based on the default Clipà.Vu options. Those options can be changed directly in the program under Settings > Advanced.

If you click on the clip content area – i.e. anywhere on the main white area the primary clip action will be performed. Primary action is copy to Windows Clipboard by default but this can be changed in Options.
Tip: The same can be achieved faster via keyboard shortcuts.

Secondary Action (Clip to Clipboard AND to the target app)

If you click on this icon the clip will be not only copied to Windows Clipboard but also pasted directly to the target application / document.
Tip: The same can be achieved faster via keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl modifier).

More Item Actions

Point your mouse to the right and you will see hamburger and cross icons. Cross icons obviously deletes the clip, hamburger icon offers even more clip actions.
Tip: Use Del key to delete the clip. Check program Options to personalize the clip behavior.

This feature gives you an access to the whole clip content and to all actions you can perform with it.

The (above described) three clip elementary actions are duplicated also in the popup – just for your convenience.

Add / Remove Favorite

Add / remove this item to / from your favorites collection.
After you marked some item as favorite you will be able to find it in your favorites collection (the yellow tab with the star symbol).

Pin / Unpin Clip

Pin / Unpin Clip

If pinned the item will be placed on the top of your history collection. Useful as ‘temporary favorited’ item.

Edit Clip

Edit the item or give it a nickname.
You can change the clip content or you can assign it a memorable ‘nickname’. That makes its future pasting extremely easy because it can be found very quickly.

Delete Clip

Delete the given clip from your collection.

Every clip has its length. This piece of information is usable especially when you have to decide about several similar clips.

Is the date and time when clip was created.

Is the program the clip was originally copied from.

Is the program the clip can be directly pasted to. It is the app that had the focus just before you activated Clipà.Vu.
If you use “Paste into” action the clip will be pasted there.
Of course it is possible only to paste it to the application that supports the given format – picture can be pasted to Paint program but not to Notepad.

Start typing and observe how History and Favorites collections shrink in their corresponding results.
Tip: There is no need to manually click on the text filter area prior you start typing.

The exact behavior of the close button depends on the mode Clipà.Vu is running (can be changed in Options) but generally talking this button closes (minimizes) the application main window while leaving the application still running.
The only way to exit the application is via the tray icon.
